- Local crime summary
- For the last month, from crimemapping.com:
- Saturday October 20, 5:17 pm, Grand Theft Gun, 500 block Sierra Madre Villa
- Tuesday November 6, 1:17 pm, Grand Theft Auto, 3000 block E Orange Grove Blvd (most likely at one of the parks)
- Upper and Lower Hastings and above the golf course on Sierra Madre Villa are showing a lot of residential burglaries and petty thefts. There are more burglaries at 24 Hour Fitness too.
- The Gold Line Station and/or the shopping center on Foothill are showing reports of auto break-ins, a “bike report”, domestic violence, and drugs and alcohol violations.
- For the last month, from crimemapping.com:
- Street trees planted
- Over the past week, new street trees have been planted in city identified empty spots throughout our neighborhood.
- A two man crew contracted by the city was doing the work.
- Some empty spots will remain, either because the homeowner told the city not to put in a tree, or because there is still curb and gutter repair work to be done first.
- Over the next couple of years, a city contracted truck will periodically fill the mulched tree wells for each tree with water.
- The trees will have a much greater chance of succeeding if the adjacent homeowner takes care of it. Keep the mulch base and tree well intact, don’t extend grass to the base of the tree, don’t surround the immediate base with rocks or other things that will shed water, periodically deep water the tree during dry and hot stretches of weather.
- Edison power line activity
- Edison continues to do maintenance and upgrade work on the power lines immediately to our west and the Goodrich Substation off Foothill.
- This week they were using a big crane and bucket trucks in replacing one of the wood power poles holding the distribution lines that run between the circuits on the big metal high tension transmission towers. Some of these large trucks have been traversing Alameda and other neighborhood streets.
- Within the next couple of months we should see them stringing the new circuit on the west rank of towers. The park will be closed during that activity and a helicopter will likely be used to pull the wire from one tower to the next.
- anything else attendees wish to discuss
- Former Charlie Brown’s restaurant site
- The site of the former Charlie Brown’s restaurant and then “Gentleman’s Club” is on the south side of Foothill across from the Ralphs shopping center. An antique store tried to open there last year but could not get an operating permit due to a lack of fire sprinklers.
- The building has now been demolished and grading appears to be under way.
- So the question was raised, what will be going in there?
- Do not have an answer at this time.
